Spotswood Enterprise Hook & Ladder Company Mourns the Passing of Ex-Chief John McDonald

JOHN F. MCDONALD
AGE: 78 BROWNS MILLS

John F. McDonald died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at home. He was 78. Born in Passaic, he lived in Spotswood
for 47 years before moving to Browns Mills in 2000. Prior to retiring in 1995, he was the Fire Code Enforcement
Inspector for the Borough of Spotswood for 25 years. Mr. McDonald was Chief of the Spotswood Fire
Department in 1971-1972 and 1976-1977. He was a Life Member of the Department, where he belonged for 34
years. He also was a member of the Exempt Firemens Association.

Mr. McDonald served in the N.J. Army National Guard from 1947 to 1966. During his National Guard Service, he
was a full time photographer for the N.J. Department of Defense. A communicant of St. Ann's RC Church,
Browns Mills, he was a former member of Immaculate Conception RC Church, Spotswood.

Mr. McDonald was predeceased by 2 sons, William and Michel. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Margaret
LeForestier McDonald; 2 sons, John "Jack" F. McDonald of Helmetta and Daniel McDonald and his wife
Therese of Tuscon, Ariz.; a daughter, Grace McAfee and her husband Dan of Burlington; a stepson, Robert
McCarthy and his wife Linda of Chelmsford, Mass.; a sister, Joan E. McDonald Gahwyler of Mahwah; eight
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Spotswood Fire
Department will conduct services 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held on
Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. in The Brunswick Memorial Home, 454 Cranbury Road, East
Brunswick, followed by a 10:15 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood.
Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery, Jamesburg.
